Long-established PC builder Epic Computers has succumbed to the pressures of the downturn and started liquidation proceedings.
The 20-year-old East Sussex-based firm has appointed Mark Willis at insolvency practitioner In Time Financial Recovery (ITFR) to commence proceedings, CRN has learned.
In a letter sent by ITFR to creditors today and leaked to CRN, it said: "The directors of Epic Computers, having regards to its financial position, have commenced liquidation proceedings."
Epic Computers supplied PCs, laptops and servers to VARs, software houses and OEMs.
Eddie Pacey, director of credit at distributor Bell Micro, said: “We have known Epic for a very long time.
“Business has changed dramatically since it started and over the years it was gradually going to come to an end.”
Nitin Joshi, founder of ChannelMoney, said: “It's always a shame when long-standing companies go. This was predicted a few weeks ago. We’ll wait to see what damage has been caused in the channel.”
A meeting with creditors is due to take place on 22 May.
Neither the company nor ITFR were available for further comment as this article went to press.
