Three-dimensional display technology and mobile integration took centre stage at Europe’s only digital signage and digital-out-of-home trade show in London this year.

Screenmedia Expo Europe, now in its fifth year, played host at Earl’s Court to some 101 exhibitors including channel stalwarts such as Bell Micro and Avnet as well as the more exotic purveyors of signage innovations.

Start-up Stereografix, billed as an integrated 3D content, software and hardware consultancy, was launched as the brainchild of military CGI specialist Saif Chaudhry.
He said the big question with 3D is what do we want from it: “We have the technology, where’s the content?”

“We now have the expertise, hardware, software and design talent to provide all important content for the various 3D platforms on offer,” said Chaudhry. “We have the answer to that question and the 3D revolution has begun.”

A channel partner deal with lenticular vendors had already generated interest from exhibition contractors and point-of-sale specialists, he added.

More portable screens were on show, as well as a number of integration solutions allowing users to deliver digital signage anywhere, any time, and manage it remotely.
Stuart Holmes, managing director of distributor and rentals specialist PSCo, said the show was good this year.

“There was a lot of footfall, and people are really talking. And the feedback has been great,” he said.

PSCo was showing, among other things, its new Laser Phosphor Display (LPD) screens from Prysm, which Holmes said are increasingly attracting interest for their green credentials from corporate customers.

Firms such as Barclays are faced with the challenge of raising profile and performance while cutting costs, so doing quality digital signage for less held appeal, he added.
