Mulligan walks away from Datrontech MD position
Datrontech group commercial director Allan Mack and sales director Tony Wand have been drafted in to take over the running of the UK operation following the sudden resignation of managing director Martin Mulligan.
Mulligan's departure on 5 November ends weeks of speculation that his appointment in February had not worked out.
Mulligan said he had been considering leaving for the past month. 'It wasn't working out for Datrontech or myself and it got to the point where I felt I couldn't add any more to the business,' he said.
Mark Mulford, chief executive of Datrontech, claimed Mulligan's decision to leave was mutual and amicable: 'He wasn't gelling. The distribution business is very different to working for a vendor, which is Martin's area of expertise.' Mulligan said his resignation was not related to the arrival of ex-managing director of Ilion Allan Mack, who joined Datrontech as commercial director (PC Dealer, 23 September).
But one source said: 'The role of general manager is too small for a man like Allan.'
Mack will take joint responsibility for the day-to-day running of Datrontech UK with Tony Wand, who was appointed to his current position in the wake of Mulligan's departure.
Mulford said: 'In the short-term, we will not be recruiting a replacement.
Allan and Tony will drive the general manager role, although Allan wasn't brought in for just Datrontech UK.'
Mulligan declined to comment on his future plans.
