Clark follows in Metcalf footsteps to exit C2000
Computer 2000 has lost its second senior employee in the past two weeks after marketing director David Clark announced his resignation.
Clark, who confirmed his departure on 7 September, had worked at the distributor for eight years, the same period as Jim Metcalf, director of the Workstation 2000 operation, who left C2000 in August over performance-related issues (PC Dealer, 26 August).
Graeme Watt, managing director of C2000, insisted that Clark's leaving was entirely amicable as they had been discussing his role at the company for more than a year.
Clark's exit also coincides with a reorganisation of the marketing structure at the distributor, which was previously centralised but will now be spread across C2000's business units.
Watt confirmed that the position of marketing director would not be filled.
However, an industry source asked: 'If C2000 is decentralising marketing, how is it going to maintain continuity? It needs a marketing director.
This sounds like a smoke screen.'
But Clark insisted he had been in discussions with Watt for some time and concluded that he had already been engaged in a wide range of marketing positions at the distributor.
He said: 'I've done nearly all the marketing and product manager roles I could have at C2000.'
According to Watt, Clark was unhappy that his role was 'too much of the same thing' this time last year and they had spent the past year exploring whether there were other opportunities within C2000.
Clark said he was yet to secure a job but was interested in pursuing a marketing career or a role in general management.
Watt added: 'He did some great stuff at the company. He has looked after Microsoft, marketing and product marketing. He knows the business inside out. It's sad that he had to leave but we knew it was going to happen sooner or later.'
