EITO: IT sector will grow in 2010

Market research predicts growth for the IT market this year

EITO is forecasting growth for the IT market in 2010

The global IT market will grow by 1.9 per cent to €2.3tn (£2tn) in 2010, the European Information Technology Observatory (EITO) has forecasted.

EITO outlined its predictions at the CeBIT 2010 IT fair in Hannover this week, where the firm announced it expects the global IT market to grow by 3.7 per cent to €2.4tn by 2011 if the current rate of economic recovery continues.

Professor August-Wilhelm Scheer, president of the German EITO partner association BITKOM, said emerging markets would be responsible for driving much of the IT sector’s growth in 2010.

He said: “The global high-tech markets are recovering appreciably from the economic crisis. Signs are once again pointing towards growth.

“In the industrial countries, increasingly companies are investing again in modern IT systems and in 2010 emerging countries will provide the additional impetus to the markets.”

EITO has also predicted that the telecommunications market will also enjoy a good year in 2010, with sales anticipated to grow by 2.9 per cent to €1.4tn this year.
