Ingram targets mobility with EMAP programme
Broadliner claims latest move will make it a stronger end-to-end distributor for mobility resellers
Ingram Micro Europe has launched an internal sales-based programme to sharpen the broadliner’s focus on its mobility business.
The distributor created its European mobility business team last year (CRN, 5 September) and has now launched its European Mobility Awareness Programme (EMAP).
EMAP comprises staff education and internal awareness programmes. Ingram is hoping the scheme will encourage its regional operations to push the firm’s mobility products and services.
Ingram said that although EMAP is designed as an internal programme, VARs will also be able to benefit from increased mobility business development at all Ingram Micro offices, along with improved mobility knowledge.
Mark Moons, senior European business manager for mobility at Ingram Micro Europe, told CRN: “EMAP focuses on our internal operations. We have focused teams in every country and hope EMAP will stimulate demand and raise awareness of mobility.”
Moons added that EMAP will service the need for greater product understanding in Ingram’s channel and spread the word about mobility.
“We see mobility moving away from the innovation stage and into the early adopter stage,” he said. “We have offered mobility to the channel for some time. It has now moved from being more specialised to becoming more mass-market.
“EMAP will enhance our understanding of mobility products and mobile solutions. This will make us a stronger end-to-end distribution partner for mobility resellers.”
Bernie Dodwell, European security manager at rival distributor Westcon, said: “Everyone is looking at mobility. We push convergence mobility, which covers both voice and data. This is all about taking the functions and capabilities of an IP desk phone and delivering this on a mobile device.”
