AMD backs away from Evesham
Chip vendor confirms it has severed direct ties with Evesham Technology
Chip vendor AMD has pulled its direct support for embattled PC builder Evesham, which was acquired in a pre-pack administration deal financed by Time founder Tahir Mohsan last week (CRN, 13 August).
Evesham had enjoyed preferential treatment from AMD as a result of its direct relationship with the vendor.
But a representative from the chip manufacturer confirmed in a statement to CRN that the relationship was over. “AMD can confirm that it is no longer working with Evesham.”
But the representative added: "AMD will not disclose information regarding individual business engagements with its partners. AMD remains committed to supporting the UK channel."
Evesham was snapped up by new firm GeeMore Technology earlier this month in a pre-pack administration deal, but will continue to trade under the Evesham Technology brand.
GeeMore is funded by PCC Technology, which is a Dubai-based vehicle run by former Time boss Tahir Moshan.
GeeMore has 138 former Evesham staff still on board and plans to focus on the consumer electronics and high-end PC segment (CRN, 13 August). 150 staff were axed as a result of the changes.
But Richard Austin, managing director of GeeMore trading as Evesham Technology, said in a statement: "All AMD is saying is that they are not going to be working with us direct. We'll still buy AMD processors through distribution. It's not going to cause any supply issues to our customers."
