Dealers get ISDN boost from 3Com

3Com is to launch an ISDN-based customised communications system which it claims will increase value per site for dealers prepared to 'broaden their domain'.

Bob Jones, general manager of 3Com's remote access division, said the company wants to sell the product through dealers eager to widen their technical knowledge.

'No one else is doing anything like this. It is not a shrink-wrapped product and is an ideal opportunity for dealers to add value,' he said.

The Serviceconnect 2000 is designed for branch offices and shops and is capable of incorporating telephone, fax, stock data control transfer, email, credit card authorisation, burglar and fire alarm systems, environmental control, meter reading and electrical equipment monitoring.

Serviceconnect will be sold by 3Com's larger dealers and systems integrators.

Jones said that value per site 'would go up from a few hundred to a few thousand pounds'.

The product will not be shipping until September as due to its technical nature it requires a large amount of training and field trials.
