TSG heads south with latest VAR acquisition

Financial software VAR group buys second company in Midlands

Technology Services Group (TSG) made its 17th acquisition last week since it first embarked on its VAR shopping spree two years ago.

The Newcastle-based VAR acquired Pegasus reseller Open Systems Services (OSS) to its long list of acquisitions for an undisclosed sum.

Nigel Hudson, business development director at TSG, told CRN: “It’s quite a small business that we have bought in Birmingham; it mainly sells Pegasus software and infrastructure networking.”

He told CRN that TSG would keep on all existing staff at OSS. “It is our aim to grow the business as much as possible,” he said.

Hudson said the move was part of the group’s venture south. “We bought another business in the Midlands late last year, but this is our first additional acquisition in the Midlands since then.”

He admitted the firm is still on the lookout for even more acquisitions in the south of the UK.

“It’s a matter of finding the right profile of business to join the group. We are having lots of conversations and next year we hope to be arriving in the south. We have lots of irons in the fire and it is just a case of waiting to see how they turn out,” he added.

Don Islip, former managing director at OSS who is about to retire, said: “The acquisition is great news for all OSS staff. The substantial backing and resources OSS will receive from TSG will enable the company to go forward in a marketplace where consolidation is the way ahead. OSS is only a small firm and with the ever-changing technology it is getting harder for small firms to survive.

“OSS has been going for 14 years and this move gives it stability.”

He added that the name OSS will be dropped in the future, as the company is integrated into TSG’s Midlands organisation.
