Mac sales hit Adobe results

Software giant Adobe Systems blamed poor sales in the Macintosh market for the fall in its turnover and profit for its third quarter, ended 30 August.

The company made $29.8 million profit in Q3, down 12 per cent from Q3 1995. Over the same period, its turnover fell one per cent to $180.9 million.

John Warnock, chairman and CEO at Adobe, admitted poor Mac software sales, shipment delays and seasonal problems affected the results.

'On a positive note, product sales for the Windows platform increased 35 per cent over the same quarter last year and now represent approximately 44 per cent of our total product sales,' said Warnock.

'We anticipate shipping several products in our fourth quarter that will lay the foundation for growth during 1997.'

Adobe also increased its licensing revenue 12 per cent and repurchased 1.32 million shares during Q3.

Corel has posted a loss of $3.2 million for Q3 1996, ended 31 August, despite a $10.4 million gain on an asset sale. It compares with a profit of $14.2 million for Q3 1995.
