nVidia claims 'revolutionary' launch
Quadro FX card making a splash
System builders and specialist workstation vendors have been quick to take up the latest professional nVidia Quadro FX card from PNY Technologies.
System builders Alienware and Boxx Technologies are among the first to offer the new Quadro FX 4000 cards in their high-performance systems.
The card boasts five times the hardware-accelerated pixel read-back performance over previous generation graphics systems and doubles geometry and fill rates, according to SPECviewperf benchmarks.
"The nVidia Quadro FX 4000's revolutionary new technology maximises the performance of all leading workstation platforms," claimed Vicky Burgoyne, general manager at PNY.
"It's a high-end graphics solution featuring a powerful shading engine that delivers unlimited programmability options for our customers.
"The board's innovative 3D graphics architecture improves the production pipeline for professional CAD, Digital Command Control and scientific workstation applications without compromising graphics performance."
New features include a fast 256MB, 256bit graphics double data rate-3 memory interface and 32Gbps bandwidth. Rotated-grid and full-scene anti-aliasing have better image quality than previous offerings.
The card now supports two dual-link Digital Video Interface-Integrated connectors for driving multiple, high-resolution panels at resolutions of up to 3840 x 2400.
Erik Cubbage, director of professional workstations at Alienware, said: "Our MJ-12 DCC Workstations equipped with Quadro FX 4000 solutions by PNY will allow animators to render the most sophisticated 3D models to create visuals with increased image quality and clarity."
PNY has been active in building a channel presence in the UK in recent months, signing a distribution deal with Computer 2000 at the beginning of the year. Professional graphics cards were a key factor in the deal; PNY is the exclusive worldwide manufacturer of cards based on nVidia's professional series of graphics chips.
The firm further expanded its distribution channel following a partnership agreement with Microtronica last month, which saw the firm become one of PNY's key distributors for its nVidia Quadro range of cards.
The PNY FX 4000 is expected to be available this quarter with a price tag of £1,399 and a three-year warranty.
