Aptec Makes a New Resolution

Jonathan Creek watch out ? London-based distributor Aptec is making a bid to become a master of illusion by supplying a flatbed scanner.

Illusion?s eponymous professional flatbed scanner pitched at the pre-press, repro and design user, will scan at an optical resolution of 2,400 x 600dpi, and can interpolate results up to 4,800dpi.

Reflective scanning can cope with documents up to 203 x 300mm in size and the built-in transparency adaptor will handle formats from 35mm to 8 x 10in with a maximum possible image size of 203 x 265mm.

Illusion has a density range of 3.6D, which according to Aptec gives some of the highest quality scans possible on a desktop scanner. Analogue signal control is used to bring out details hidden in the shadows and highlights.

Aptec sales director Mark Devonshire said: ?Illusion compares favourably with anything else on the market today. It fits into the gap between professional repro scanners and high-end flatbeds.

Pre-scan colour calibration and correction tools are provided by Silverfast scanning software, designed by Lasersoft. Pre-scan unsharp masking and descreening utilities also form part of the package.

The software also permits batch scanning with independent settings.

The Illusion scanner has a white cold fluorescent light source and connects to a PC through a Scsi-2 interface. It allows scanning at 4,096 stepped levels of grey.

The scanner, complete with transparency adaptor, Photoshop LE and Silverfast for Mac or PC, is priced at #1,995.
