Dell opens up to Hammer

Hammer boss says agreement complements its Intel expertise

James Ward

Dell has granted Hammer access to its entire server portfolio as part of the continuing expansion of its UK distribution strategy.

The agreement builds on Dell’s decision to appoint Hammer as a distributor for its blade server and storage systems in January. The Basingstoke-based distributor was an EqualLogic partner before Dell acquired the SAN vendor in November 2007.

James Ward, managing director of distributor Hammer, said that it made sense to extend the offering because Hammer is also an Intel server and components
distributor.

“We were missing a branded server provider in our portfolio so the extended partnership fits like a glove. Now resellers can offer a full solution in the server virtualisation space,” he said.

“It is encouraging to see Dell embracing its channel.”

Ward said one of Hammer’s objectives is to reduce the lead time on Dell servers.
