Packard Bell sale ongoing
NEC Corporation no closer to selling its European Packard Bell consumer PC division
NEC Corporation is still no further forward in selling its European Packard Bell consumer PC division.
The vendor confirmed last month that it was in discussions with an unnamed third party to buy the business and speculation was rife that the sale was imminent (CRN, 26 June).
However, an NEC representative told CRN: “There is no further news at the current time. Talks are still ongoing, it is just the nature of this type of thing.”
NEC originally split its PC manufacturing business into two divisions last November: NEC Computers, which focused on the commercial side and operates a channel strategy; and Packard Bell, which focused on consumers and sells through retail. Both divisions have their own chief executive and separate business strategies.
The representative declined to reveal whether other buyers have entered into the frame or how long the sale could take.
