Vcomm owner woos resellers
Distributor looking to expand reseller and vendor base under new owndership
IP telephony distributor Vcomm plans to draw on the financial clout of its new owner to rapidly expand its vendor and reseller base.
As revealed by CRN (CRN Online, 2 May), the firm has been snapped up by AIM-listed voice over IP (VoIP) services firm Coms in a deal worth £100,000.
Scott Dobson, managing director of VegaStream, Extricom and Ingate specialist Vcomm, said: “We are going into partnership with a plc with deep pockets and big ideas in the IP telephony space. We need to get out there and attract bigger partners and suppliers and will hopefully make some announcements soon.”
Coms, which launched last Autumn, sells hosted VoIP platforms directly to consumers and businesses.
But Terry Martin, chief executive at Coms, denied that the acquisition would lead to conflict. “It’s important we don’t cause confusion,” he said. “Vcomm won’t be selling our coms.net business platform through resellers.”
Steve Davis, vice-president sales and marketing EMEA for VegaStream, said: “Having the backing of a big plc puts Vcomm in a strong position. Our products are complementary to Coms’s offering, so we don’t see this as a competitive threat.”
