Quantum to join Big Blue scheme

Storage manufacturer Quantum has been signed up by IBM for its PC server compatibility programme.

The firm is one of a handful of companies participating in the scheme.

The deal means Quantum storage technology will be incorporated into IBM's PC server product range.

The half-inch cartridges are said by Quantum to work with mid-range to high-end systems and are now being tested for suitability with a range of Big Blue PC servers.

The tests will look at what levels of device drivers, operating systems and hardware are best matched to provide a well configured system.

Quantum DLT product manager, Greg Fredericks, said the firm hoped the programme would enable IBM customers to get the best from both their IBM servers and from Quantum's storage products.

Following a partnership between IBM and Danish software company Damgaard, Big Blue has recruited resellers to support the UK launch of Concorde XAL, an open-platform client/server business management system.
