Lack of support leads to networking woes

Over 30 per cent of network users experience serious problems at least once a month while nearly 10 per cent have trouble each week, according to a recent report.

The survey of users was carried out by Securicor Securit, which claimed the results demonstrated a need for greater systems support.

The survey revealed over 80 per cent of corporate networks are running critical applications on a PC Lan or Unix network, compared with 73 per cent last year and 34 per cent in 1994.

Sixty-nine per cent of respondents view network security as important, but only 29 per cent of corporate Internet users have a firewall. Only 37 per cent use virus checking procedures in relation to the Net.

Sales director Lee Wood said: 'Securicor's heritage is in looking after valuable goods and Securit extends the service of protecting cash and physical assets to electronic assets.'
