SME Focus Moves Microdyne To UK

Microdyne has shifted its European power away from its US parent to its UK office as part of the company?s strategy to target the SME market.

Previously, European business decisions were made in the US, but the UK subisidary, based in Fleet, Hampshire, has been handed the responsibility. A pan-European team has been appointed to control sales and operations, and plans are afoot to open an office in Paris.

Peter Mylchreest, Microdyne director of sales and operations for Europe, said the networking firm had previously acted like a holding company, growing by buying companies such as National Semiconductors, Eagle Technology, DCA and Gateway Communications.

?What we want to do now is promote the Microdyne name.?

Mylchreest said the recent 3Com/USR merger was an opportunity for Microdyne to capitalise on. ?In every chaotic sit- uation there is an opportunity.?

While Microdyne limits its distributors to Azlan, Frontline, CHS Electronics and Ingram Micro, the 3Com/USR operation will have a combined force of 13. ?I don?t believe in over-distibution. We value our channel. The last thing we would do is put our resellers in a situation where the margin is scaled down,? said Mylchreest.

He added that Microdyne was likely to continue with its shopping spree.
