Amillan furthers Walsall College's IT education

Voice and data specialist updates college's communications infrastructure to help it develop its multimedia strategy

Amillan's work will help Walsall College's pupils develop their skills

VAR Amillan has completed its part in a £1.4m project to supply a fully integrated communications infrastructure to Walsall College.

In partnership with Alcatel-Lucent, Amillan supplied the college – which has more than 1,000 students aged between 14 and 19 – with an OmniPCX Enterprise platform, which the firms claimed will help the college build on its future multimedia strategy and give pupils access to IP telephony.

The solution also provides the college with a "seasonal" contact centre during the busiest times of the academic year.

Deb Rajania, project director at Walsall College, said: “We needed partners that could provide a fully integrated communications solution, had a proven track record of delivering on time and had the vision to provide Walsall College with a technology platform that could take us into the future.

“We’re committed to transforming the local economy through industry-focused skills and knowledge and thanks to Alcatel-Lucent’s technology, our teachers and students now have the teaching and learning environment necessary to develop their ideas, skills and ambitions,” she added.

Stuart Taylor, business development manager at Amillan, said: “With an integrated IP infrastructure in place, Walsall College now has the platform on which to deploy new technologies and applications easily and effectively – for both staff and students. Enhancing the learning experience helps the college nurture talent and bring out the best in its pupils.”
