Maintel wins VoIP contract
Reseller to supply Mitel and HP products to Plymouth Health Community
Plymouth Health Community (PHC) has signed a three-year, £1.2m deal with reseller Maintel for a voice over IP (VoIP) phone system built with Mitel and Hewlett-Packard ProCurve (HP) products, after an 18-month consultation period with the VAR.
Scott Plaskett, head of major accounts and equipment at Maintel, said: "After an evaluation, PHC decided working with us was the right thing to do. Mitel and HP fitted what it wanted."
The installation is part of Plymouth City Council's £300m Vanguard Project, an expansion of the city's NHS infrastructure.
Initially, new buildings on the main campus of PHC - made up of Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust and Plymouth Teaching Primary Care Trust - will use the VoIP system, based on Mitel's 3300 ICP platform. Remaining users will be migrated from the three legacy ISDX PBXs on site.
"There are 80 sites, but 4,500 of the 6,000 users are on campus," said Dave Cox, regional business development manager at Mitel. "The 1,500 remote users will move over from a Centrex solution when the contracts expire."
Rob Harder, telecoms manager at PHC, said: "VoIP was the most cost-effective option, and a converged network offers the most effective support structure."
