Frontline confirms talks with ex-Apple man Ewing

Apple?s former indirect sales manager Ed Ewing has emerged a possible candidate to fill the role of general manager of Front- line?s Macintosh division.

The position has been vacant since the beginning of the year, when its previous holder, Julian Klein, was promoted to Frontline?s board as commercial director. He is running the division until a replacement is found.

A representative at Frontline said: ?We are in discussions with a number of people, one of whom is Ed Ewing.? He claimed a decision would be made in the next four weeks.

An Apple representative confirmed that Ewing had been made redundant two weeks ago as part of its restructure (PC Dealer, 23 April). The move to to cut 25 per cent of the vendor?s staff has also claimed product manager Clive Girling as a victim. There is speculation that Terry Martin, Apple direct sales manager, will now take on Ewing?s responsibilities.

Meanwhile, the shock resignation last week of Jan Larsen, Apple European general manager, has raised speculation that Jon Molyneux, Apple UK MD, is in line for promotion. It is understood that Molyneux has taken on additional responsiblity in the Irish Republic and South Africa, but could take on Europe as well. Apple refused to comment.
