3Com gunning for enterprises
Vendor launches network management application
3Com is targeting larger enterprises with the launch of a new network management application, Network Director.
The voice and data networking vendor will sell the software exclusively through its channel.
Simon Bates, 3Com's marketing director, said: "Three years ago we withdrew a few product lines that took us out of the core large-enterprise business."
Richard Quine, 3Com network management product line manager, said: "Our existing product, Network Supervisor, is aimed at any network of up to 1,500 nodes, which is good for monitoring. But in terms of configuration and exchange control, Network Director is an enterprise-class network product."
Greg Carlow managing director of VAR Repton, said: "Network Director is part of an ongoing process, where 3Com is building up its range and adding more to its high-end (portfolio).
"The slot for a number-two networking vendor is up there to be grabbed. 3Com is not trying to beat Cisco product for product, but by developing equivalent products at a cheaper price."
