Synnex makes a play for Euro counterpart
Mitac Europe looks set to be taken over by Synnex, a US-based member of the Mitac International Group. Synnex has been 85 per cent owned by Mitac International since 1993 and recorded $730 million turnover for the year ended February 1996. The California-based distributor and assembler will be setting up a UK operation during the first half of 1997. Glenn Taylor, general manager of Mitac UK, denied the UK company was to be swallowed up by its US counterpart. ?Synnex will launch itself aggressively in the UK, but will be separate from Mitac UK. I can confirm that as we speak there has been no acquisition of Mitac Europe. That is the official line.? Taylor would neither confirm nor deny that plans for the acquisition were on the table. If the takeover goes ahead, Synnex will be in a stronger position to get a US stock market listing thanks to its increased global presence.
