Auspex takes high and low roads

Nas product suitable for high- and low-end markets

Network attached storage (Nas) vendor Auspex Systems has released a series of data servers capable of scaling up to 68Tb of data on a single device, suitable for either high- or low-end markets.

The NS3000 can be used as a straightforward data server for the low-end market, or it can be attached to a network and carry additional back-up technologies, thereby making it a high-end product.

Garry Elliott, UK manager of Auspex, said: "It is both low and high capacity, simple and complex. This is what makes it ideal for the channel."

Auspex launched its channel programme last month and the NS3000 is the first new product to be released into the channel.

"We want the channel to be at the forefront of our Nas technology," said Elliott. "This is a product that we see as something organisations can develop into."

Ideal Hardware is the sole distributor of the product. " Nas isn't just for the entry-level storage products, it's an enterprise system too," said Mike Collins, Ideal's product manager for Nas. "It is a good starting point for the storage market. It's easier to understand and to sell and now we've got the enterprise products, we've got the full spectrum of solutions."

Elliott said that, although the NS3000 is potentially a complex technology, resellers will be able to cope. "We cannot underestimate the skill the channel has, and resellers can make profit on the systems alone, but more importantly on the services aspect that accompanies it," he added.
