MXSweep eyes move into UK market place

Irish managed security services specialist wants to replicate its home-grown success

Irish managed security services specialist MXSweep is hoping to replicate its home-grown success and establish a UK channel to sell its hosted email security portfolio.

MXSweep’s managed offering includes anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-fraud and attachment filtering technology.

The firm has already signed integrator Satisnet as its first UK partner, but is hoping to recruit up to 15 partners in the coming year.

Speaking to CRN, Danny Jenkins, chief technology officer at MXSweep, which counts BlackSpider, MessageLabs and Email Systems as some of its main competitors, said: “We have been very successful in Ireland and we see a huge need for hosted anti-spam providers in the UK. It is a large market and we believe there is a lack of choice for many companies.

“We are looking for resellers that specialise in security, not necessarily email protection.

“Our product is very simple to deploy and we are confident it will appeal to the channel.”

Jenkins said MXSweep will provide partners with the necessary training and support. Initially partners will be recruited at the same level, but as the channel programme matures, MXSweep will look to tier its resellers, he added.

Bob Tarzey, service director at Quocirca, warned that the firm could find a lot of competition in this new market.

“It’s a fairly mature market and there have been plenty of offerings from well established vendors for some time – the main players being MessageLabs, Postini, BlackSpider and Microsoft following its acquisition of FrontBridge,” he said. “IBM also has a play due to its relationship with MessageLabs. All these vendors go via the channel, so I’m afraid MXSweep is going to have its work cut out.”
