Elcom takes it slow with partners
US-based reseller Elcom is holding back from making a quick decision over whether it sells or merges its company as the immediate pressure to find a partner has eased.
Last year, PC Dealer revealed that Elcom was seeking a strong financial partner with which to fund growth and help it expand into Europe.
At the time Jim Rousou - a member of Elcom board of directors and president and CEO of Elcom Catalink Direct subsidiary - said there was 'a very strong likelihood the partner would be one currently without a UK operation but which had an interest in expanding into Europe, using the UK as a bridgehead.'
The reseller had originally set itself a date of the end of last year to find a partner but it was revealed that it was experiencing delays in finding a suitable partner (PC Dealer, 14 January).
Talking to PC Dealer exclusively last week, Rousou pointed out that the pressure to find a partner had eased and the reseller could spend more time finding the right partner.
'By aligning with someone else, we thought it would be quicker. But we are not desperate to do this now,' said Rousou. He added that the search to find a partner had taken longer than anticipated.
Rousou admitted that Elcom was still in talks with companies but there was no longer a time scale to to conclude the talks. He refused to say who the company was talking to.
