Root6 looks to networking

After completing installation for animation house Nexus, VAR foresees increased demand for 10Gbit ethernet

Networking out: Root6 is increasingly deploying 10Gbit ethernet

London-based VAR Root6 is targeting more networking revenue after completing an installation of Force10 Networks kit for animation house Nexus.

Root6 specialises in deployments in broadcast media and resells vendors including Isilon and Apple. The reseller revamped Nexus’ networking infrastructure as it expanded its office space and sought to counter problems with slow network speed and data management.

Root6 provided the firm with networking and clustered storage kit. Technical director Rupert Watson said: “We improved overall throughput at Nexus’ 3D animation facility.”

Watson described the project as a “significant bit of business” for his firm. “Networking has not traditionally been a core part of what we do but increasingly we are doing 10Gbit installations,” he added.

Root6 recently signed with Force10 and Watson indicated the vendor initially instigated the project and had been hands-on during installation. “Force10 did a lot of the heavy lifting,” he said.
