Chess Telecom buys Nationwide

VAR completes its 16th acquisition in 31 months

VAR Chess Telecom has completed its 16th acquisition in 31 months after buying VAR Nationwide Telecom.

Chess will introduce Nationwide’s customers, who subscribe to voice-only services, to Chess’s broader communications portfolio.

Talking exclusively to CRN, Richard Btesh, director of corporate finance at Chess, said: “Nationwide has a quality business customer base that is subscribed to call services only. We can introduce other services, such as mobile and broadband.”

Btesh added that Chess is looking at one or two larger acquisitions, which might take longer to complete.

“At Chess we have the critical mass and the relationships with the key carriers,” Btesh said. “We look to make one acquisition a month, but you cannot always time it that way.”

Btesh added that acquisitions are the best way for Chess to grow business, alongside strong sales.
