Avocent signs Unipalm
Security distributor Unipalm has partnered with Avocent
Security distributor Unipalm has partnered with Avocent to supply its entire portfolio of keyboard, video, mouse and remote access products.
Avocent has claimed its products are designed for IT administrators who need to troubleshoot, reboot or power cycle servers and serial and network devices.
The vendor recently launched its Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI) Serial over LAN and virtual media, which allows administrators to remotely perform tasks such as diagnostics testing, file transfer, and operating system and application patching.
Rob Nash, director for ebusiness at Unipalm, said: “We are already working with Avocent in other markets and have been partnering successfully with it in Germany for some time. Providing flexible access to multiple servers and data centre devices is something all enterprises need to address if they are to reduce server downtime and total cost of ownership. Avocent products tackle this.
“It is also a new revenue and margin opportunity that we can offer to our reseller partners.”
Philippe D’Argent, vice-president for EMEA sales at Avocent, said the vendor has been looking for a value-added distributor to plug vital gaps in its market reach. “We also work with Computer 2000 in the UK, but it tends to deal with the mail order and catalogue partners. Unipalm can bring more breadth to our reach,” he said.
