Multitech plays a modem card

Data communications equipment manufacturer Multitech has added a rack-mountable modem card cage with hot-swappable modems to its product family.

The CC1600-Series is aimed at small and medium-sized businesses and powers up to 16 high-end Multitech modems. It provides connections through a common backplane for power, data ports and phone lines and can be mounted in any industry standard 19in equipment rack. Each rack requires one power supply, but includes space for a second supply in the event of redundancy.

Dilip Mistry, Multitech MD, believes the card cage's hot-swappable design enables network managers to install or remove any modem or power supply in the cage without shutting down the power. 'If the first power supply fails, there is the added backup of the redundant supply,' he said.

The CC1600-Series includes the CC1628/11, aimed at dial-up and two-wire phone lines which offer an RJ11 interface for each modem to connect to the line. Also included is the CC1628/21L which handles dial-up, two or four-wire leased lines with dial backup.
