Kidz learn their lesson
A nationwide network of computer tuition centres is quietly training up the next generation of software-buying consumers.
Whizzkidz, which runs ten multimedia learning centres for four to 14-year olds, sends its associates who run the centres to their local indie computer dealer for hardware. Associates also recommend and sell edutainment packages as part of their computer literacy training service.
The children's centres, which were launched nationally last year, charge u9 an hour for tuition and run their classes in local leisure centres rather than schools. "We want children to regard the sessions as fun learning, not an extension of school," said principal Eileen Kilvington.
Whizzkidz also works with special needs children because learning typing skills develops hand-eye co-ordination and dyslexic children respond well to the multisensory input provided by multimedia, said Kilvington.
