Maxdata thinks big to buy Peacock
German distributor Maxdata has snapped up PC assembler Peacock in a move that will create one of Europe?s largest PC and peripheral suppliers.
But the deal ? for an undisclosed sum ? is unlikely to have an impact on the UK market, according to the MD of Maxdata UK, John Adams.
?There will be no affect on the UK and there are no plans to bring Peacock PCs back,? said Adams. ?Our business is selling monitors to system assemblers and we do not want to conflict with our channel by also selling PCs.?
Maxdata is part of the same group that owns the German company Vobis. Maxdata UK was launched as a monitor distributor last month and has signed around 100 dealers for its Belinea monitor range.
The purchase of Peacock gives Maxdata, which sells branded PCs in Germany, increased economies of scale, says Holger Lampatz, chairman of Maxdata in Germany.
?Peacock will continue to operate independently in the market as a broadline distributor,? he said.
?But the Vobis/Maxdata group will exploit the synergy in the areas of purchasing and production.?
