Amacom an asset to Origin
Hybrid vendor and distributor makes acquisition to boost market presence
Origin Storage Solutions has acquired the assets of IT vendor Amacom Technologies.
CRN understands Amacom Technologies recently entered a Creditors Voluntary Liquidation, having appointed London-based accountants Langley & Partners as liquidators.
Andy Cordial, director at Origin Storage, told CRN: “The Amacom acquisition gives us a two-year fast track into the mail order, retail and corporate markets. It also takes us to another level and gives us an advantage over our competitors.”
Cordial added that Origin has retained Amacom’s former technical manager and external account director, and that the firm is intending to keep Amacom’s brand name for products such as its portable backup device Flip2disk.
Both Amacom and Origin had existing distribution deals with Ingram Micro, but following the acquisition, Cordial said it would look to appoint two more UK distributors.
“We will look to appoint no more than two new distributors in addition to Ingram Micro, which will include both a broadline and a specialist distributor,” he added.
Andy Brown, regional manager for UK, Ireland and South Africa at Tand-berg Data, said: “Acquisition through growth is good so long as Origin has done it with due diligence. In previous trading with Origin it seemed to know what it was talking about.”
