FEC signs with Vcomm after downfall of Spot

German VoIP vendor becomes the first of Spot Distribution's former vendors to move to a rival

Spot Distribution’s ‘in-limbo’ vendor relationships are being divided up, with rival distributor Vcomm landing German voice over IP (VoIP) vendor Funkwerk Enterprise Communications (FEC).

When Spot entered liquidation (CRN, 26 June) it left a number of vendors – such as Foundry Networks, Westell Technologies, Allied Telesyn and FEC – with reduced UK channel coverage.

Vcomm has moved in on FEC and will distribute the vendor’s bintec, elmeg and artem brands, which address xDSL routing, IP handsets and PBXs with VoIP support. Vcomm will be FEC’s second UK distributor alongside Surrey-based Nxgear.

Scott Dobson, managing director of Vcomm, said: “We were in discussions with FEC, and after Spot entered liquidation FEC approached us with open arms.”

Dobson added that FEC wants to focus on the VoIP market, and that its existing channels do not have the experience required.

“We have sold significant amounts of FEC’s handsets,” he said. “We wanted a router solution to work with Worksmart, our hosted platform.

“We will take the FEC offering to our existing channel base, which is about 40 to 45 resellers. We will also look to recruit new service providers and channel partners.”

Guy Goodman, director of international sales at FEC, said: “This is the year that VoIP will be introduced to the market. Next year will be about driving revenue. If you look at the major European carriers, everyone is moving into VoIP.

“Vcomm understands the functions, features and requirements of the market we are in.” C
