IT staff to help police inquiries
Personnel could become special constables
Firms could find themselves taking a leading role against hackers if suggested changes to the 1990 Computer Misuse Act go ahead.
The All Party Internet Group (APIG) of MPs has been leading an investigation into the Act, and sees a role for companies to possibly offer key IT staff to act as special constables for the police.
"The police have to prioritise resources and this is where the public sector can help," said Richard Allen, vice-chairman of the APIG.
APIG also called for denial-of-service attacks to be considered under "impairing access to data".
David Ellis, director of e-security at distributor Unipalm, said: "New laws would definitely help. But the key thing is that staff must be aware of computer policies and practices."
