LifeSize Team launched for smaller customers

Videoconferencing vendor answers user requests with cheaper product

High-definition (HD) videoconferencing (VC) vendor LifeSize has begun shipping its second product following the launch of its inaugural product, LifeSize Room, in January.

In answer to customer requests for a cheaper product aimed at a smaller number of users, LifeSize has developed LifeSize Team.

Munira Fraeed, LifeSize’s vice-president of marketing, told CRN: “LifeSize Room is really for use in large conference rooms or auditoriums, so we were being asked by customers if we had a product suitable for smaller environments and for a product at a lower price. LifeSize Team is ideal for groups of four to five people. It uses one monitor and one camera so the price point is a lot lower, unlike LifeSize Room, which supports two monitors and two cameras.”

Questmark, one of LifeSize’s UK resellers, is offering the product as part of a bundle. It hopes the deal will open up HD VC to SMEs. Sam McMaster, managing director of Questmark, said: “Team is suitable for meetings of eight people or less. The bundle we’ve put together consists of the Team system, an HD screen, provision of the network, continual training and helpdesk support from Questmark, and if the system breaks down we will fix it. For all of this we charge £475 per month over a three-year contract period.

“Not everyone will want to buy Team this way, but I think it will encourage more SMEs to buy into VC.”
