Black Duck flies into UK with Atos Origin

US Vendor takes first steps in the UK

Vendor Black Duck Software has taken its first tentative step into the UK channel after signing services giant Atos Origin.

The US vendor provides compliance software that enables developers to automatically verify compliance codes and avoid infringing on other licences.

Black Duck and Atos Origin will jointly decide on the bundling of Black Duck’s protexIP suite. The protexIP platform creates a collaborative environment that allows organisations to manage their software licensing policies and procedures. Black Duck claimed the protexIP platform helps companies reduce business risks and complete software projects on time and on budget.

Douglas Levin, chief executive of Black Duck, told CRN: “Atos is our primary partners for the UK enterprise market. We have seen a steady increase in the number of enquires from UK companies over the past six months. Atos Origin is both a consultancy firm and a reseller. This will enable it to give a consultancy offering about the product, while reselling it to customers.”

Levin said there is a potential for Black Duck to sign more channel partners in the UK, but for the time being Atos will operate as the vendor’s sole UK route to market.

Jacques Cosnefroy, senior vice-president for systems integration at Atos Origin UK, said of the potential demand for Black Duck’s software compliance offering: “As software developers change their approach and incorporate much more open-source and other third-party code in their work, more challenging regulatory and compliance scenarios are beginning to emerge.”
