The last pieces of stricken distributor Datrontech are being snapped up as companies queue to buy Summit Peripherals, its Colchester-based storage and memory arm.

The last pieces of stricken distributor Datrontech are being snapped up as companies queue to buy Summit Peripherals, its Colchester-based storage and memory arm.

The company went into receivership last year after months of disappointing financial results, the loss of key staff and cash flow problems.

Portable Add-ons, the mobile solutions arm of Datrontech, was the target of a management buy-out for an estimated £400,000.

Other firms which mopped up staff and customers of the distributor included Northamber, MemoryPlus and Hammer.

One firm interested in buying Summit Peripherals is Upgrade Options, led by managing director Andy Cordial, a former sales manager at Datrontech.

"We have put in a bid for Summit and are waiting to hear whether we will be successful," he said, adding that Upgrade Options expected a buoyant trading year because of a growing demand for systems upgrades.
