Kingfisher/Asda buy thwarted

Kingfisher's attempt to acquire Asda has been trumped by a $6.72 billion agreed offer from retail titan Wal-Mart. The cash deal of 220p per share is a 24.6 per cent premium on the share price before it revealed it was in talks with Kingfisher. Its offer was equivalent to 186p per share.
