Micro Peripherals launches education arm
Distributor points all its AV resources towards the education market
The new division will focus on high-end AV opportunities in the education space
Micro Peripherals (Micro-P) is launching an education division that will be headed up by the former sales director of reseller Lanway.
Going live on 1 March, the new 10-strong arm will incorporate the resources of Micro-P’s audiovisual (AV) division, which the distributor admitted was not adding sufficient value for its resellers.
Former Lanway sales director Richard Bovingdon will head up the team.
Bovingdon told CRN: “Micro-P’s existing AV model wasn’t right. It was almost a me-too player and was adding no value to the reseller channel. We are going from a box-shifting mentality to offering a true value-add solution offering to our reseller channel.”
Bovingdon said his team will drum up demand among local authorities, academies and primary capital projects before pulling the opportunities back up to reseller partners. It will focus on cutting-edge technologies such as touch interactive technology and 3D projectors.
He cited an upcoming ‘learning plaza’ deployment Micro-P is working on with VAR European Electronique as an example of the type of project the team will specialise in. Details of a similar project Bovingdon worked on while at Lanway can be found here.
The team includes three other former Lanway staff specialised in AV, IT and project management. The resources of the current AV unit, some of which are based in Micro-P’s southern office, will also fall under Bovingdon's control.
