Remote system is a winner
Prime Business Solutions wins CRN/Syscap Approved Technology Innovator of the Month award
A video conferencing system that allows the Royal Courts of Justice in London to take testimony from witnesses and legal experts remotely has won the October CRN/Syscap Approved Technology Innovator of the Month award for Newbury-based Prime Business Solutions.
Dave Reynolds, accommodation officer, said the custom-built system, which enables the Courts to hear witnesses who are unable to attend, has made an enormous difference. "It has completely changed the way cases are dealt with, and from a customer service point of view, it's fantastic," he said.
The system is saving time and money and allowing more witnesses and experts to be consulted. For example, an expert witness from the US, who would otherwise need to fly in and stay in London for perhaps two days, can testify simply by visiting a local conferencing suite.
Prime designed the suite to link up with almost any video conferencing system in the world and relay the testimony to the Courts on plasma screens.
The system also had to be flexible enough to cater for the special requirements of each case. Prime devised a set-up that allows the combination of camera, microphone and screen to be altered on a touch-screen.
Prime's marketing director, Nathan Marke, said listening to the customer was key to getting the right solution. "Working out exactly what they wanted was probably the biggest challenge. The legal system is still a bit of a mystery to most people and we had to be as sensitive as possible to normal court procedures," he said.
Prime will join eight other winners of the Technology Innovator of the Month awards on the shortlist of nominations for two annual awards, one for the public sector and one for the private sector, to be presented at the Channel Awards in November.
