Domino adds in ERP support

IBM's Lotus unit has released details of the latest version of its Web application server, which it claims is the first to merge enterprise connectivity with services such as workflow and business-focused collaboration.

At its Lotusphere user conference in Orlando, Florida, last week, the vendor said Domino Application Server R5 would support enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications such as SAP and provide enhanced support for popular Web platforms such as Microsoft Internet Information Server. Support for Corba and IIOP, Java servlets and Java server pages will also be improved by closer integration with IBM's Websphere Application Server.

Michele Deziel, general manager of Web Application Development at Lotus, said: 'Lotus Domino's unique workflow and collaboration capabilities will take Web applications to another level, by allowing Lotus customers and business partners to build people-oriented processes around their enterprise data systems.'

She added: 'With R5, we have improved our highly productive development environment to offer a leading edge, standards-based toolset, which broadens the scope and decreases the time to market when developing global collaborative Web applications.'

The groupware vendor also announced that its Domino messaging product would start supporting ERP packages from SAP, Peoplesoft, JD Edwards and Oracle over the course of the year.
