F-Secure takes Fresh route to market growth

Vendor appoints specialist security distributor Fresh Egg to broaden its UK market

Security vendor F-Secure has added specialist distributor Fresh Egg to its UK distribution line up.

Under the deal, the distributor will concentrate on increasing the vendor’s share of the appliance market by pushing the flagship F-Secure Messaging Security Gateway appliance through its UK reseller base.

Richard Hales UK country manager at F-Secure, said: “We have had anti-virus software that has sold exclusively through the channel for some years now. Our distribution strategy to date has involved broadliner Computer 2000 (C2000) on the volume side, and Actebis, which has focused mainly on retailers and system builders.”

However, since the launch of F-Secure’s appliance last year, a gap in the market has opened up, said Hales. “C2000 and Actebis were not particularly interested in the specialist appliance market, and we needed a distributor that was,” he added.

“Fresh Egg has quite a limited product range and was able to offer a lot of focus on what we do, which is why we decided we would partner with it,” Hales added. “We also received a lot of positive feedback from resellers that were keen for us to engage with Fresh Egg as well.”

Hales said Fresh Egg will have access to F-Secure’s entire product range and because the appliance will stand alongside offerings from rival vendors such as Fortinet, Array Networks and Top Layer, it will let the distributor incorporate F-Secure technology into its existing offerings.

Graham Fox, managing director of Fresh Egg, said the distributor’s “hands-on” approach to business will help F-Secure get extra bite in the channel and will also help to make end-user customers more aware of F-Secure’s product range.

“The response from our resellers has already been fantastic and we are feeling very confident,” Fox said.
