GTCO CalComp rebrands name to Interwrite Learning
Vendor claims this better reflects its focus on the education market
Interactive technology vendor GTCO CalComp has rebranded and changed its name to Interwrite Learning to better reflect its focus on the education market.
Founded in 1975, the US vendor began life producing digitising products, but it has become better known for its Interwrite range of interactive products, which includes interactive whiteboards (IWBs) and interactive panels.
Rob Meissner, vice-president of marketing at Interwrite Learning, told CRN: “We still manufacture digitisers and they will continue to be sold under the name GTCO CalComp. The new Interwrite Learning business will focus solely on our interactive products for the education market.
“The name change will give our channel partners a much stronger and more recognisable brand. Our interactive products were all branded Interwrite, but our company name was GTCO, so it was very confusing for resellers and end-users.”
Art Systems and Micro Peripherals are GTCO’s core distributors in the UK and will remain on board following the rebranding.
“We are not looking at changing our distributors in the UK,” Meissner said. “We would like to add a few more resellers though, particularly for our Interwrite PRS interactive voting system. I think voting systems will be the next big thing in education; the growth in IWBs has certainly passed.”
Interwrite has recently launched Interwrite Virtual PRS software, which is designed for use with networked computers or Windows-based PDAs in a classroom, with or without the Interwrite PRS radio-frequency handsets.
Andrew Hand, communications manager at Art Systems, said: “The name change is positive. It is focusing more on the education market these days so it makes sense to brand all of the InterWrite products under the name Interwrite Learning.”
