Frontline duo fit general manager bill
Frontline has finally filled the positions of general manager for its 10 business divisions after a number had stood vacant for up to five months.
The distributor appointed former founding director of Peacock UK, Steve Sawkin, general manager of its PC components division on 1 September. The position has been vacant since the departure of Hugh Baker-Smith in April.
Both Sawkin and Baker-Smith worked at Peacock UK. Sawkin was MD of Peacock?s computer operation until 1992, working alongside Baker-Smith who headed the telecoms business. Baker-Smith eventually took over the entire operation when the computer and telecoms arms were consolidated.
Since leaving Peacock, Sawkins has been a director of Hammer Distribution, which he left earlier this year. He said he now hoped to work more closely with Intel, as the Frontline unit focuses on working with PC and systems integrators.
Frontline has also managed to fill the position of peripherals general manager with the appointment of Andy Dow, who has moved from Frontline subsidiary Datech where he was sales manager for the Cad and graphics division for two years.
Frontline MD Graeme Watt said: ?We are very pleased to get Steve and Andy on board as it completes our management team. We can now concentrate on building on our success in all our business divisions.?
Ed Ewing also started on 1 September as general manager of the Macintosh business unit, following three months of uncertainty about whether he would take the job.
