Compaq goes into product overdrive
The vendor has launched new products right across the board as part of its efforts to become a top three global player
Compaq has boosted its product offering across all markets. The vendor has introduced the Presario 1060 notebook into its home PC family.
After Compaq released this product in the US last year, there was much speculation on when it would arrive in the UK. The Presario 1060 will launch in March and is priced at #1,999, inc VAT.
At the same time as introducing a portable multimedia machine into the home market, Compaq has built MMX technology and a six-speed PD-CD rewriteable optical drive into the Deskpro 6000 range.
The Deskpro 6000 is described by Compaq group product manager Steve Jackson as ?Compaq?s flagship product?.
Jackson claimed: ?Over time, businesses will begin to develop and adopt more applications that take advantage of the new MMX technology.?
As Compaq continues to state its aim of becoming one of the top three global computer companies, it has announced its plan to attack the storage market.
Figures from research firm IDC show Compaq to be the third largest storage vendor worldwide, with 7.9 per cent of the market. The vendor has brought out new wide ultra Scsi hard drives this year and said it will be launching more storage products and raise its profile in the storage market throughout 1997.
The global storage market is estimated to be worth $23.8 billion.
