Azlan devours CDG Europe

Tech Data's enterprise arm continues European spending spree

Gass: This cements Azlan’s position as the leading VAD in Europe

Virtualisation distributor CDG Europe has become Tech Data’s latest conquest after agreeing to sell up to the goliath broadline distributor.

Computer 2000 (C2000) parent Tech Data made several enterprise-focused purchases in Europe last year, including Spanish IBM distributor Compumedi and Irish Autodesk specialist Cadco.

Via its Azlan arm, Tech Data has now snapped up certain assets of Netherlands-based CDG Europe, which boasts franchises with the likes of VMware, Citrix and RES Software.

According to the rumour mill, Tech Data was not CDG Europe’s only suitor, with Irish-based DCC Group - the parent of UK outfits Gem Distribution and Micro Peripherals - also thought to have had a sniff.

CDG Europe has presence in the Netherlands and Sweden. The deal, which is expected to close by the end of March, does not include CDG UK, which recently broke off from the wider group.

Andy Gass, managing director of C2000, told CRN: “We are delighted with the acquisition. It fits with our strategy of acquiring businesses, particularly in the area of specialist distribution, and cements Azlan’s position as the leading VAD in Europe.”

In a statement, Peter Hoekstra, managing director of CDG Europe, said: "The acquisition of CDG by Tech Data is a great opportunity to increase the product range and provide a wider selection of solutions to the market via an excellent partner channel."
