SGI has upgraded its product lines with the launch of the Octane2 workstation and SGI 1100 server.

Octane2 is an addition to the SGI VPro graphics family and is available as the V10 and V12. Both are based on the existing SGI IRIX operating system. It can draw over 18 million pixels per second and maintain a pixel fill rate of 448 megapixels per second.

The V10 and V12 are high-end systems targeted at creative and technical professionals in the digital media, visual simulation and medical images industries. Octane2 is available now through SGI authorised resellers starting at £13,668.

The company has also released the 1100, a dual Intel Pentium III processor-capable server that supports Linux, Windows 2000 and NT operating systems.

Available with either 800Mhz or 1Ghz processors, it features a 133Mhz bus and up to 2Gb of memory. SGI designed the server for creative applications such as electronic design automation, bioinformatics, rending and digital publishing.

The SGI 1100 is priced at £3280, and is available from this month..

Jim Irving, Europe, Middle East & Africa channels director at SGI, said the firm has tried to build a lot of margin into the new products.

"High-end products have a lot more scope for resellers to make money. SGI is keen to move these new devices into the channel and we are interested in recruiting more channel partners," he said.
