Dutch Var considers future bids

Senior directors at Info' Products were in conference in Holland last Monday considering a bid to buy a bigger share of the reseller market.

The talks followed an attempt by General Electric (GE) to buy Info' Products' French division, Allium, earlier this year, when GE also failed in a bid to acquire Computacenter.

John Trueman, head of Info' Products UK, formerly Corporate Computers, and Huib Winkel, head of the Dutch group, were meeting and unable to comment on the proposed deal. But a representative admitted: 'We are looking to make significant acquisitions in both the UK and in Europe.'

Computacenter turned down an attempt by GE to buy its French subsidiary or any part of its business. A source said GE is in 'very acquisitive mood' and wanted to buy a French firm.

Info' Products only owns a 50 per cent share in Allium, but has first claim on the other 50 per cent, owned by French bank Societe Generale.
