Scalable eyes resellers for UK expansion plan

Asset intelligence vendor claims its software can cut IT budgets by up to 20 per cent in the first year

Asset intelligence vendor Scalable Software is on the prowl for VARs after launching a UK office.

The firm, which is a subsidiary of US software investment firm JMI Services, claims its software can cut IT budgets by up to 20 per cent in the first year by tracking software and hardware useage.

Nick Youell, product and marketing director at Scalable, said he is looking for VARs with links to top-level financial and budgetary staff at large enterprises.

“In the US, we partner with large account resellers and smaller specialists that have access to high-level business people,” he said. “We will also use this mixed approach in the UK.”

Youell said Scalable, which eventually plans to work through distribution, would initially look to recruit one corporate reseller and about five smaller specialist channel partners.

He admitted the vendor, which targets firms with more than 500 PCs, would also sell direct, but stressed this would be phased out once the market was seeded.

“As people become more aware of how much investment in their software and hardware estate is lying idle, they become aware that there are products out there that can save them some money,” Youell said. “We know the corporate market in Europe is open to our message.”

Paul Cooper, head of software asset management at VAR Grey Matter, said: “There are more than 100 software asset management tools in the market so Scalable will have to ensure it differentiates its product from the likes of Centennial and Express Metrix.”
